Household Hazardous Waste

Many products we use everyday are considered "household hazardous wastes." Car batteries, paint and household cleaners are just some examples of household hazardous wastes. These items can become pollutants if they are not used, stored or disposed of properly. Read and follow all label instructions on these products.

The items listed below are considered hazardous wastes. These wastes and their containers should be saved for a community hazardous waste pickup day or be taken to a licensed hazardous waste contractor:

  • furniture polish
  • metal polish
  • automatic transmission fluid
  • car batteries
  • household batteries
  • brake fluid
  • car wax
  • gasoline and kerosene
  • used motor oil
  • epoxy glues
  • paint, paint thinner and stripper
  • varnish
  • turpentine
  • insecticide
  • rat poison
  • lighter fluid
  • moth balls
  • swimming pool acid
