ACE Fun Run

Tuesday, June 22 • 6:30 – 7:30 a.m.
Calgary River Valley Course (Meet at 6:15 a.m. in Hyatt, Stephen (8th) Avenue entrance)
Cost: $25 USD, $25 CND

Get the conference week started off on the right foot and enjoy a refreshing run/walk along the scenic Calgary river valley and Eau Claire Market District with the downtown scenery as a backdrop.

The event is open to runners and walkers of all abilities.

Each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Please specify size of t-shirt when registering.

Stampede Breakfast

Join your fellow conference-goers outside the Hyatt for a Calgary tradition, a free Stampede Breakfast! During the Calgary Stampede, a large festival and rodeo that is held in Calgary every summer and attracts more than 1.2 million visitors, free stampede breakfasts can be found all over town. We wanted to bring the celebrations from the Stampede to our ACE attendees so enjoy pancakes and coffee and be sure to bring your white hats to get into the Calgary spirit.

Women’s Professional Development Luncheon

Join members of the Women’s Professional Development Committee for a luncheon featuring a presentation by Diane Freeman, P. Eng., Ward Four Councillor, City of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; Vice Chair of A&WMA’s Ontario Section; and incoming Chair of the Professional Engineers Association of Ontario. Reserve your seat by checking the “Women’s Professional Development Luncheon” box on the conference registration form. The Committee annual meeting follows lunch.

The white cowboy hat is an iconic symbol of Calgary’s international reputation for unrivalled hospitality and western roots. Every Canadian Prime Minister and U.S. President of the last 50 years has been presented with a white hat.

Grand Reception

Tuesday, June 22 • 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Join your fellow conference attendees in the Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt for the highly anticipated Grand Reception! In addition to food, drinks, and music, this year the Mayor of Calgary will attend the reception and kick off the conference week with a White Hat Ceremony which is the official welcoming of visitors to Calgary. Be sure to purchase your white hat on the conference registration form and bring it with you to the reception.

One ticket to this reception is included with each full registration. Additional tickets may be purchased for $55 CND ($50 USD) each via the registration form or on-site.

The Trickle Down Effect of Clean Water Sustainability

Momentum is growing for a legislative opening of the Clean Water Act. Water quality improvements have reached a plateau and supplemental programs, regulations, and tools are now needed to leverage the water quality gains realized over the past 35+ years. Attend this joint breakfast of A&WMA and AAEE for details on the latest developments and what’s on the horizon as we forge ahead to achieve a sustainable strategy. Hear approaches for leveraging the expertise of engineers and scientists to more effectively influence policy and regulations.

AEESP/A&WMA Meet & Greet Breakfast

All academics attending the Annual Conference— college and university faculty, Ph.D. candidates, and postdocs— are invited to network with colleagues from the Association of Environmental Engineering and Scientific Professors at the annual A&WMA/AEESP breakfast meeting. J.Patrick A. Hettiaratchi, PhD, PEng. Professor, Center for Environmental Engineering Research and Education, will give a presentation titled “The Biocell Approach to Recover Resources and Energy from Waste,” which will discuss Biocell, a landfill that promotes sustainable solid waste management and extends the landfill bioreactor concept to include principles of sustainable development.

Join A&WMA’s members as they recognize the accomplishments of their outstanding colleagues at the Annual Honors & Awards Luncheon. Member longevity and commitment to the Association will also be celebrated. One ticket to the luncheon is included with each full conference registration. The Mount Lorette and Mount Kidd courses offer immaculate lush fairways, bent grass greens, over 140 silica sand bunkers, four sets of tee boxes, glacier feed creeks and ponds, the cascading Kananaskis River, and a variety of resident wildlife including bears, deer, and coyotes.

The fee includes dinner, use of practice range and balls, green fees, golf cart, and plenty of door and skill prizes.
